EMI+ (Eye movement integration) trauma focussed therapy is a very safe, brief process used for resolving psychological trauma from traumatic situations or events, intrusive memories, shame, guilt, phobias and embarrassing moments.
When someone has experienced something that has been traumatic, painful or negatively emotionally charged, quite often the intensity of the experience fades and people are generally ok. There are times, however, when one (or sometimes more than one) memory keeps popping back up and brings with it all that painful, unwanted emotional distress or flashbacks, often when 'triggered' by certain images, smells, sounds or even tastes. The reason this happens is because that traumatic or upsetting experience hasn't been processed properly, or enough.
Naturally you may avoid thinking about the experience because it is too upsetting, but it leaves the trauma unprocessed.
With EMI+ therapy, you will re-access the experience, with me, in a safe environment. It will be brief, and you will be in control. By moving your eyes a certain way at the same time by simply following my finger, the memory of your experience begins to blur and lose it's emotional charge while your brain is busy focusing on my moving finger. It doesn't take long before you begin to notice that whenever you try to access the memory of your bad experience, you will not encounter the same negative emotions as you did before.
EMI+ therapy is an excellent way to de-couple emotional pain from a memory. The memory will remain there, along with all associated learning. The emotional pain that is attached to the memory will not.
After EMI+ therapy you will still be able to recall the memory you chose to work on, but you will be free of the painful emotion you had previously attached to the memory.
